UPDATED 03/6/2000
Our main dialup number is (952) 253-5324. It supports all modem speeds including 28.8/33.6k, K56Flex, and V.90. Along with our new V.90 support, connections with older modems should work much better due to improvements in our terminal access servers.
Following is some information to help you with your 56K modem. No special configurations should be necessary for 28.8k/33.6k users.
In order to achieve speeds approaching 56K, 56K modems must have an extremely clean path to the service provider. Among things that can affect performance are your distance from the phone company's central office, the quality of the pair into your location, the quality of your in-house pair, and the number of telephones you have on the phone line.
For more information, please see the USR X2 troubleshooting guide, which can be applied to other 56K technologies, at ftp://totalservice.usr.com/pub/.docs/x2shoot4.pdf. The document eventually goes outside the scope of this page, but nevertheless contains some useful information.
You may also want to take a look at http://808hi.com/56k/r-rnut-x2-3.htm, a page an individual has put up. Also see the other 56K pages he has available.
Real connection speeds will likely never approach 56k or even 50k, more common speeds are in the mid 40k's.
Also, sometimes 56K connections just aren't reliable. If you're seeing frequent hangups or periods of slowness, try disabling 56K.
Infinity AccessNET currently supports K56Flex v1.0 or greater. We also support V.90 with Lucent, 3Com, and Rockwell chipset modems.
To get your Rockwell-based modem working, be sure you are running version 1.0 or greater of K56Flex OR that you are running V.90. Check the webpage of your manufacturer for flash updates.
Here are some additional settings you can try on Rockwell-based modems:
Aggressively negotiate 56K connections: S202=32 (firmware prior to 1.1) Disable K56Flex connections: +MS=11,1,300,33600 Disable V.90 connections: +A8E=,,,0
If you have a USR/3Com x2 based modem, you should upgrade it to V.90 to achieve connect rates above 33.6K. See 3Com's 56K Site
Here are some settings you can use with your USR/3Com modem:
Disable x2 (Sportster): S32.5=1 Disable v.90 (Sportster): S32.6=1 Disable x2 (Courier): S58.0=1 Disable v.90 (Courier): S58.5=1
To use these settings, add them to your modem init string. In Windows 95:
Start Menu -> Control Panels -> Modems -> Properties -> "Connection" tab -> "Advanced" button. Now enter the appropriate string above in the "Extra Settings" field.
